Helping Families on Two Continents

1. The Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta is a compassionate, safe and affordable home away from home for out-of-town families whose children are receiving treatment in a local Calgary hospital. The purpose of Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta is to keep families together and provide a supportive environment while the family member is being treated for their illness. Through the help of volunteers and sponsors such as yourself the Ronald McDonald House provides support to families in many ways. The House is not only an affordable accommodation for families with sick children but also a safe, secure and comfortable environment for families to prepare and share a meal, rest from the daily routine of caring for a sick child in the hospital, draw strength and support for other families in similar circumstances as well as utilize common facilities to read a book, watch TV, play games or connect to the internet.

2. Doi Chaang Coffee Company is forged around a small and isolated Hill Tribe village made up of family farmers in the mountains of Northern Thailand. These villagers first began growing Arabica Coffee in an effort to introduce sustainable agriculture to their region, with the help of the United Nations and the King of Thailand. Through their hard work, dedication and pride in a quality product, the people of Doi Chaang have produced a world class bean that is very rare and has been sought after by many. A small group of Canadian entrepreneurs were introduced to the people of Doi Chaang and devoted themselves to helping introduce their coffee to the world while helping the farmers see the fruits of their labours. The growers are paid significantly higher prices than Fair Trade for their coffee beans. While at the same time the Hill Tribe farmers own 50% of Doi Chaang International. This means that they will continue to see profits from the sale of their beans as they are distributed world-wide. The villagers are dedicated to preserving their way of life, while at the same time they have been able to introduce advancements to their village such as a medical clinic, access to education, running water and electricity.
