French Press

French Press, Bodum, Plunger, Old Faithful… whichever name you choose to call it, it’s one of the most consistent, reliable tools out there. Chances are you’ve had one in your house at some point growing up. There are a few different ways to brew – but this is our tried-and-true favourite. Enjoy this full-bodied, creamy cup!

Brew Time: 4 Minutes

What You’ll Need

  1. 56g of Coffee
  2. Grinder
  3. Gooseneck Kettle
  4. French Press
  5. Wooden Spoon
  6. Scale
  7. Timer

Brew Steps

  1. Step 01

Preheat your French Press – put some boiling water in it while you prep your beans.

  2. Step 02

Grind your beans (we suggest Single Estate Dark or Espress-Yoself) to a coarse grind, like kosher salt.

  3. Step 03

Boil water in gooseneck kettle to 95 degrees Celsius, or boil and wait 30 seconds to cool. Dump water out of press.

  4. Step 04

Add coffee and pour water in to the halfway point. After 30 seconds, give the grounds a stir and pour in the rest of your water (to the top of the press).

  5. Step 05

Wait 3:30 and you are ready to press your coffee! Firmly press all the way down.

  6. Step 06

Pour your cup and sip! Try not to let the water sit in the press for too long – the coffee will continue to extract and you will get a more bitter cup as you drink.

One more tip: If your plunger seems to press down a little too easily – your coffee is ground too coarse. If it is quite hard to push down, the coffee is too fine. Play around until you find the perfect grind for your press.
